As a spa manager, the holiday season demands more time, effort, and energy than any other time throughout the year. Now that the busiest time of the year is settling down, it’s time to put some of that time and energy back into yourself before the next high season that’s right around the corner, Valentine’s.
During this time, we encourage you to reset and refocus on what matters most, you. Making a few simple daily changes in 2022 can set you up for success, personally and professionally.
4 Ways to Run Your Day
- Set a Morning Routine
Creating a consistent routine each morning helps set the tone for the rest of the day, better allowing us to control our schedules rather than our schedule controlling us. How you choose to start your day is completely up to you. Famous boxer Muhammad Ali would start each day by reading empowering affirmations while Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington starts her day by waking up slowly, taking deep breaths, reminding herself of what she is grateful for, and defining an intention for the day - making sure to never begin her day by looking at her phone.
- Make Time For Yourself
We all know that each day can bring new celebrations or new challenges. It's critical you make time to focus on yourself each and every day in order to best celebrate the day’s wins and to heal from the losses. This could be taking 10 minutes each day to journal, or meditate. Enrolling in a yoga class, or unwinding with a gorgeous glass of pinot at the end of a work day. A great way to ensure you’re getting time for yourself, is to put away your work at night. It’s important to disconnect after a long work day, so stop scrolling through your emails, checking your slack channels, or reviewing those slide decks. Take time to focus on yourself!
- Drink More Water
Water is an important part of your health. Drinking water can prevent dehydration, a condition that can cause unclear thinking, result in mood change, cause your body to overheat, and lead to constipation and kidney stones. According to the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies, the general daily water intake recommendation is approximately 91 ounces of water for women — from all beverages and foods — and approximately 125 ounces daily for men.
- Make Personal Goals Each Week
The best way to hold yourself accountable is by setting small, obtainable goals for yourself each week. This could be “walk a mile twice a week” to encourage more exercise, or “cook 5 nights a week” to help stick with health goals. No matter what your personal goals look like, they’re meant to be a guide for you each week - and when you achieve a goal, you automatically have another reason to celebrate.
4 Ways to Run Your Spa - Professionally Speaking
- Focus on Client Retention
Driving new traffic to your spa and bringing in new guests is always something to be excited about. However, creating a loyal customer base is key to long term success. While this can come naturally by providing excellent service to your spa guests, there are other ways to fuel client retention rates. Try to incentivize client frequency by creating a loyalty program or developing a referral program.
- Improve Your Training Process
A great way to create a successful spa operation is to always look for ways to improve. One way we’ve found is to constantly enhance our training process. In order to find ways to improve, we suggest surveying your current team members to see how their training experience was and what they think would have been helpful to know ahead of time compared to now. We also recommend getting managers involved with the training process. By giving training responsibilities to spa managers and other team members, it creates a sense of ownership and they’ll be more likely to help improve your training programs as they go.
- Use a Sophisticated Selling System
We all know we’re only as good as our technology. In order to run your spa more efficiently, you need to have a sophisticated selling system. We use Spa Space as a way to handle all of our spa operations - spa guests, therapists and estheticians, and spa managers. It’s a seamless technology throughout all of our spa locations that has made our lives 100% easier.
